The caste system is present in India for a long time which began around 1500BCE. It is a tool of the elite class to secure and maintain the position of power. Because of this, Wealth and Power have accumulated around these people.

After Independence, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar introduced a reservation policy based on the caste to make sure that historically oppressed class get equal opportunities and to create an equal society. It was a right move at that time. But now, reservation, cast and religion have become an issue to secure vote bank. It is now used to divide society, opposite to what it was supposed to do.

An elite and oppressed class in now developed in every caste(Dalits, OBC and also in general). The Elites of every caste/category do not want to loos their power and are fueling the cast and religious division for there political benefits.

An economic look at this problem is the unequal distribution of wealth. The richest 1% own 58% of the wealth.

SOLUTION

A different reservation system based on income.

 prerequisites

        1) same quality education for all.
         2) equale involment/representation in jobs.

        how will it work?

x-axis: wealth/income, y-axis: proportion of population

1) divide the society into income slabs as shown in figure slab1 are poorest, slab4 are richest.

2)financial assistance will be provided according to the slab for education, healthcare and economic development.

3) no reservation will be given at educational institutions and government job to anyone. selection will take place according to marks and merits.

4) subsidies will be given for economic development( building homes, developing business, hospital bills, educational fees and other important aspects)according to the slab the person belongs

Benefits

1) appropriate help will reach to everybody particularly to the              economically backwards class.

2) the cast tag that is now given by government (on TC, caste               certificate validity, id proofs) will be removed and thus the              government support to cast system will be withdrawal.
(however, fight on the social front will have to continue).

to fulfil the prerequisites windows of 10-15 years will have to be provided by giving reservation according to slabs in educational institutes and government jobs

this is a very premature idea. many aspects of this solution will require experts involvement.

please comment, what you think about such system and what is your solution to the problem with current reservation system and unequal distribution of wealth
